It’s Eric Carle’s birthday. Watch him reading maybe his most famous story, The Very Hungry Caterpillar on: http://www.eric-carle.com/ec_reads_vhc.html
If you have told the children an Eric Carle story, you could read it again and tell the children that today is his birthday. You could even download a photo of Eric from Google pictures like I’ve done here and ask the children to sing Happy Birthday to him.
Check out his official website:
http://www.eric-carle.com/home.html and get ideas for exploiting his stories from other teachers on:
One of my favourite stories by Eric Carle is The Very Busy Spider. Check out this video with lots of activities about spiders and a nice introduction to the story.
Then let the children watch the story on:
For ideas for introducing the story see:
Check out this website for activities to go with the story: http://www.hubbardscupboard.org/the_very_busy_spider.html has useful printables to tell or re-tell the story.
